How to Build Your Skincare Routine for Success with LumeCeuticals

Yasmine Attard-Mill

No matter what your skin concern is; blackheads, acne scars, fine lines, dryness, or dark circles... the secret to great skin is starting with the right daily skincare routine.

Navigating skincare can feel a little daunting (like, where do you even start?). That’s why I recommend beginning here.

I have been in the skin industry for over 20 years, and we have always stood by the saying, "all you need is an A, B, C and an AHA", however, I've seen it happen again and again where clients are told to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise. I'm sure you've heard of this in marketing campaigns or passed down from your Mum or older sister. Yes, this is a very simple and outdated approach, that simply doesn't work.

So here is my Cheat's Guide to all the LumeCeuticals skincare products, a snapshot if you may, so that you can learn more about each product quickly and easily and start the process of understanding your skin.

The golden rule, always begin with;
Step 1. Cleanse & Prepare
Step 2. Intelligent Correctives
Step 3. Hydration & Support

Stick with these basics for about 3 months before adding in the "Targeted Actives". This ensures your skin is prepped, balanced, and ready to absorb all the good stuff.

However, there is an exception to this rule...if your skin is inflamed, irritated, red, itchy, stripped or experiencing any skin barrier issues like eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis, then I would have you start with only "The Healers" - you can identify these products by their cream label with gold writing. Shop The Healers Collection here.

Let’s dive in...

Step 1. Cleanse & Prepare

Think of this step like brushing your teeth - you wouldn’t skip it, right? Same goes for cleansing. Before your skin can drink up the good stuff, you need a clean canvas - skip it and nothing else works as well.

Immerse A milky, acne-safe gentle cleanser for all skin types, balances your skin without stripping it.

Emulsify A balm cleanser for sensitive skin and stubborn makeup (your new favourite fragrance-free skincare essential).

Polished Exfoliating paste for an instant pick-me-up. Helps refresh dull skin and can help get rid of blackheads fast.

Dissolve With 10% Lactic Acid this prickly cleansing cream will dissolve dry, dull, thickened skin.

Personally, I can't live without having two cleansers. One non-exfoliating and one exfoliating, as some days I like a creamy hydrating cleanser and other days I need something more exfoliating.

Step 2. Intelligent Correctives

These are your ride-or-die products and this is where the magic starts - the daily skincare routine building blocks. These vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C and AHA products support healthy functioning skin. To target early concerns like dryness, pigmentation, congestion and fine lines, make sure you’re using one product from each category, once a day:

Vitamin A (night only) Retinal for Skin Renewal

Renew .25% A gentle introduction to vitamin A that strengthens the skin barrier and repairs early damage, without irritation. Perfect for dry or sensitive skin and even during pregnancy.

Resolve .5% (formerly Reverse) A quick-absorbing, resurfacing Vitamin A serum with 0.5% Retinaldehyde, that remodels scar tissue, regulates oil and congestion, reduces inflammation and visibly restores clarity to blemished skin. Ideal for acne scars, breakout-prone, oily and thickened skin.

Renew 1% With 1% Retinaldehyde, this corrective strength vitamin A activates sluggish skin, regenerates collagen, brightens ageing skin while instantly plumping and softening wrinkles. Ideal for serious ageing concerns, pigmentation and sun damage.

Vitamin B (morning or night) – Niacinamide for Strength & Hydration

Vitality A medium-weight 5% Vitamin B moisturising serum. Hydrates, calms, and strengthens - a great non-comedogenic moisturiser for all skins.

Recharge A fast absorbing, radiance boosting 10% Vitamin B serum with serious anti-ageing benefits. The perfect niacinamide serum for acne, pigmentation and ageing concerns (not for sensitive skins).

Vitamin C (morning) – Brightening & Collagen Support

Defend A Vitamin C powerhouse for brightening dull skin and protecting against pigmentation and sun damage. A true vitamin C serum brightening boost.

Fade Potent pigment-blocking serum, perfect as a hyperpigmentation treatment. Ideal for all types of brown spots, freckles, Melasma, discoloured scars and sun damage. A great vitamin C serum substitution for breakout prone skin.

AHAs (night only) – Exfoliation & Breakout Control Serums

Accelerate Perfect for skin's sensitive to exfoliation, this anti-inflammatory serum will reduce irritated skin while gently lifting cellular damage. Day or night, ideal for healing minor breakouts, marks, blemishes and dry skin congestion.

Accelerate+ 5% Double-strength multi-acid formula for stubborn pimples and oily skin (think of it as your hyperpigmentation treatment + breakout control).

Revitalise A creamy, 10% Lactic acid exfoliating night serum that smooths, firms and rebuilds your skin, for a visibly luminous complexion. - ideal for ageing, dry, resilient skin types.

Step 3. Hydration & Support

As the saying goes, all you need is an A, B, C and an AHA. If your skin has all the correct vitamins it needs to thrive and function, it shouldn't need a moisturiser. BUT, I hear you. We don't live in a bubble, the weather changes and our skin changes, we get sick or run down and the list goes on, and sometimes your skin just needs that little something extra.

Hydrate Deep-absorbing, super-light serum - your best friend if you need a hyaluronic acid moisturiser-level of hydration.

Replenish Moisturising milk to calm redness and inflammation, supporting even the most sensitive skin.

Nourish A thick, non-greasy balm for very dry or sensitive skin (an amazing best moisturiser for sensitive skin option).

Step 4: Targeted Actives

Once your foundation is solid, you can layer in these advanced serums depending on your skin concerns. And I know it's really tempting to rush into using products that are marketed specifically for a concern you have, i.e. wrinkles or pigmentation, but please, for the quickest, most visible and long-term skin benefits, build on your foundation, as this will follow you through the years.

Ageless Wrinkle-smoothing serum to soften fine lines and a healing powerhouse (your go-to for wrinkle smoothing skincare). Ideal for ageing, dehydrated, post procedure skin.

Pause Support stressed, depleted skin. This silky serum will improve elasticity and firmness, while soothing redness and hydrating for a resilient skin barrier. Ideal for ageing, hormonal, menopausal, sensitive and post procedure.

Glow Hydrating, brightening and firming sheet mask, perfect pre-event, post-treatment, or post-flight.

Eye Care

The delicate skin around your eyes needs special attention, every morning and every night because honestly, they’ll give away your age before anything else. Whether you’re looking to prevent fine lines, reduce eye bags or brighten dark circles, these eye serums are specially formulated to tackle the unique skin around the eye area.

Redefine (previously Defy) Vitamin-rich, velvety eye serum that deeply hydrates, targets fine lines, dark circles and puffiness. Ideal for all signs of ageing eyes.

Awaken Lightweight eye serum that instantly lifts and firms while energising and brightening dark eye circles and reducing eye bags. Ideal for all eye areas, even post-procedure.

Illuminise A radiance-reviving, moisture-locking eye balm that smooths fine lines, firms and instantly brightens tired eyes. Ideal for all eye areas, even the most delicate.

Ok yes, I have all 3 eye serums (but skincare is my thing), and I choose the eye product that I feel like I need on the day - some days I'm puffy, some days I need immediate brightening and some days I mix 2 together.

Body Love

Because skincare doesn’t stop at your jawline.

Reveal A deeply replenishing, fast-absorbing milk to restore, soothe and brighten skin that has been exposed to the environment. Ideal for daily use, on all skin types, especially ageing, sundamage and sensitive. Recommended post-procedure and during pregnancy.

Revive A super softening and smoothing night-only, exfoliating body moisturiser for dry, ageing, thickened, rough and sun-damaged skin. Amazing for pregnant bellies to help prevent stretch-marks.

Shield Reusable silicon tape that promotes an advanced skin healing environment to rapidly heal the skin to reduce redness and discolouration, whilst softening and flattening raised scars.

Remember this is about "building" a routine. I never want you start all these products at once. A successful routine is about adding in a product at a time and listening, watching, and feeling your skin to see how it adjusts and what it may need next.

Focus on cleanser + ABC + AHA for your first 3 months, then build your routine from there. Your skin is living, ever changing and, adapting - so let it thrive.
