Collection: Pigmentation & Sun Damage
Pigmentation can present in a number of ways...
✔ Dark spots or sun spots
✔ Patchy or uneven skin tone
✔ Freckles that have become darker
✔ Brown or grey patches (often hormonal)
✔ Dark marks left after breakouts or irritation
Does this sound like your skin?
If your skin tone looks uneven, dull or blotchy, pigmentation may be developing beneath the surface.
With over 25 years of experience treating pigmentation, I’ve learned that lasting results don’t come from harsh treatments, but from regulating melanin production, supporting the skin barrier and correcting pigment at its source.

Pigmentation is one of the most common skin concerns I see in clinic. It can show up as sun spots, freckles, hormonal patches or lingering dark marks after breakouts, leaving the skin looking uneven and dull.
Pigment forms when melanocytes produce excess melanin, usually triggered by sun exposure, inflammation, hormones or skin trauma. Over time, these pigment clusters become visible as dark spots, patches or uneven tone.
While pigmentation can be stubborn, the right skincare can regulate melanin production, brighten the complexion and restore clarity to the skin.
Why the LumeCeuticals Skin System works for Pigmentation and Sun Damage
In-clinic treatments such as lasers and peels work by lifting and removing the pigmentation that is "stuck" within the skin, but intelligent skincare ingredients, like we use in LumeCeuticals, corrects and retrains the damaged cells to help regulate the production of pigmentation, resulting in long term luminous healthy skin.
Pigmentation rarely has just one cause. In most cases, it develops from a combination of triggers that stimulate excess melanin production in the skin.
- Sun Exposure
- Hormonal changes and medication
- Inflammatory pigmentation
- Environmental stress and ageing
Using intelligently formulated cosmeceutical products that contain potent actives like multi-acids, niacinamide, tranexamic acid, tyrosinase inhibitors, vitamin C, anti-inflammatory botanicals and retinaldehyde, we can:
- Accelerate skin renewal
- Lift pigmented build up
- Fade the appearance of dark marks
- Regulate melanin production
- Brighten the skin
Unsure Where To Start?
Pigmentation is best treated progressively and consistently.
Each phase is designed to build on the last, correcting pigment while keeping the skin strong, balanced and supported.
In the clinic, I always treat pigmentation concerns using a simple two-phase system designed to calm inflammation, fade pigment, correct damaged cell behaviour and boost skin performance, simply choose the System that best suits your skin:

Follow these 3 Steps to Brighter, Healthier Skin
MORNING ☼
01. Cleanse → 02. Vitamin C + Vitamin B → 03. Support → SPF
NIGHT ☾
01. Cleanse x2 → 02. Cycle: Vitamin A + AHA → Fade → 03. Support
Step 1 - Cleanse & Prepare
The first step to correcting pigmentation is removing makeup, SPF and daily build-up without disrupting the skin barrier, every morning and every night.
A clean, balanced canvas allows your corrective ingredients to penetrate properly and work more effectively.
Yasmine’s Tip:
I always recommend two cleansers; one exfoliating cleanser (Polished or Dissolve) to gently refine and brighten the skin, and one non-exfoliating cleanser (Immerse or Emulsify) for daily use, makeup removal and post-treatment or sensitised skin days.

"Pigmentation does not appear overnight - and it doesn’t disappear overnight either. With consistent use of corrective ingredients, skin can gradually become clearer, brighter and more even in tone."
Step 2 - Intelligent Correctives
These are your core skin-correcting serums that retrain and improve skin function over time. The foundation to any successful routine, these core vitamins work to regulate melanin production, accelerate cell turnover, and restore a bright, healthy skin tone.
Yasmine’s Tip:
Start with one serum from each vitamin group, a vitamin A (Renew .25%, Renew 1%, Resolve .5%), a vitamin B (Vitality or Recharge) and a vitamin C (Fade or Defend). As your skin builds tolerance, you can increase strength or frequency to progress your results.

"Hydration isn’t optional and everyone's skin needs it. It’s what keeps your skin functioning properly while you’re correcting dysfunction."
Step 3 - Hydration & Support
Correcting pigmentation requires a hydrated, calm and strong, skin barrier. Hyaluronic acid, ceramides and anti-inflammatories build skin resilience, reduce irritation and allow corrective ingredients to work effectively without triggering further inflammation or pigment.
Yasmine’s Tip:
Choose up to 2 of these hydrators, serums and moisturiser based on what your skin needs, whether that’s lightweight hydration (Hydrate or Vitality), anti-inflammatory support (Replenish or Pause) or deeper nourishment (Nourish).

Pigmentation Skin FAQs
I have sensitive skin and pigmentation, what products should I start with?
Sensitive skin always needs to be addressed before pigmentation.
Phase 1 is designed for sensitive skin, however I recommend introducing the night products gradually, allowing your skin to climatise and strengthen in between.
MORNING ☼
Emulsify → Fade→ Vitality → SPF
NIGHT ☾
Emulsify → Renew .25% / Accelerate → Vitality / Replenish
I also recommend for sensitive skins Replenish hybrid face oil to soothe, rebuild and protect the skin barrier.
Do I repurchase the same skincare again?
Not necessarily. This system is designed that you could progress from Phase 1 to Phase 2, if your skin has responded with no irritation, however I always recommend reaching out to me via email to have a quick chat about how we can elevate your routine and ensure it doesn't become stagnant.
Your skin loves a challenge and adapts to change really well.
What is melasma and why does it happen?
Melasma is a deeper form of pigmentation caused by hormonal changes, such as pregnancy, contraception or menopause.
It typically appears as symmetrical patches on the cheeks, forehead or upper lip and can be more challenging to treat than surface pigmentation.
I've found that a combined approach with clinical treatments and skincare works best.
Don't forget to use Fade every morning and night and Sunscreen in the morning.
Why do I get dark marks after breakouts?
This is known as post-inflammatory pigmentation.
After acne, irritation or skin trauma, the skin can produce excess melanin (pigment) during the healing process, leaving behind dark marks once the breakout has resolved.
Consistency with a tyrosinase inhibitor plus anti-inflammatory actives work best.
I recommend using Fade morning and night plus Accelerate at night.
How long before I see results?
Pigmentation takes time to fade, but you'll notice skin luminosity and brightness instantly.
With consistent use of corrective skincare and daily sun protection, you can expect gradual improvement in skin clarity and overall tone.
The skin renewal cycle can take 6 to 12 weeks, which is where consistency matters and long term changes take effect.
Can pollution and ageing cause pigmentation?
Yes, environmental stress, oxidative damage and cumulative sun exposure can gradually trigger pigmentation over time.
This often shows up as uneven skin tone, dullness or patchy discolouration.
Do I really need to wear SPF when treating pigmentation?
Comprehensive sun protection is your best bet to combat sun damage.
Slip on covering clothing, Slop on SPF30+ sunscreen, Slap on a hat, Seek shade, and Slide on sunglasses.
Without protection, UV exposure continues to stimulate melanin production, making pigmentation harder to treat and easier to trigger again.
